Where to find information on screening documentation
For depression, tobacco use and suicide safety planning
Magellan Behavioral Health of Pennsylvania is re-sharing key reminders on behavioral health screening code guidance originally issued in 2025. At the direction of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and in coordination with the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) and county partners, Magellan shared two provider network announcements to support accurate documentation and behavioral health screening practices.
The first announcement outlines requirements for core data set depression screenings. The second provides guidance on implementing screening codes for tobacco use and suicide safety planning.
