Magellan Health appointed Dr. Steven E. Pratt as chief medical officer in September

After Caroline Carney, M.D., who formerly served as Magellan’s chief medical officer, was appointed chief executive officer of Magellan Health in 2025, Steven E. Pratt, M.D., has served as chief medical officer.

In this role, Dr. Pratt helps advance Magellan’s clinical mission and strengthens Magellan’s leadership in supporting meaningful provider engagement and high-quality behavioral healthcare.

"His 25+ years of healthcare experience, spanning from direct patient care to administrative oversight of clinicians, is a valuable contribution to Magellan that furthers our mission of bringing evidence-based solutions to those we serve."

Dr. Pratt previously served as senior medical director for the employer segment at Magellan, where he provided clinical oversight for behavioral health, substance use disorder, and employee assistance program (EAP) services. He also served as vice president and medical director, with additional responsibilities overseeing the organization’s quality and medical policy divisions.

Before joining Magellan in 2017, Dr. Pratt served as executive medical director of behavioral health for the Minnesota Department of Human Services and held clinical leadership roles at UnitedHealth Group.

Dr. Pratt is a board-certified psychiatrist and earned his Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Minnesota.
