Include the provider's physical address on Magellan claims

Using a Post Office Box address will result in denials

Magellan has recently identified a billing error trend on submitted claims that involves the use of a Post Office (PO) Box as the billing provider’s address.

In accordance with CMS and 5010 guidelines, the billing provider’s address on claims must be a physical address. Post Office Boxes cannot be accepted.

Claims submitted with a Post Office Box for the billing provider’s address will be denied with an Explanation of Payment code of IJ: This claim is being denied because services were billed to a PO Box; services must be billed to a physical address. Please correct the location address and resubmit the claim.

What you need to do

If your claims deny for this reason, resubmit corrected claims that include the provider’s physical address. Magellan will make a one-time exception to waive timely filing limits and reimburse any otherwise eligible, clean claim.
