Magellan Health welcomes new leaders, CEO Kenneth Fasola and COO James Murray
Magellan Health’s Board of Directors recently appointed two new executives to its Executive Leadership Team. Ken Fasola was named chief executive officer and Jim Murray joined Magellan as president and chief operating officer.
About Ken Fasola, CEO:
As chief executive officer of Magellan Health, Fasola is responsible for Magellan’s strategic direction and overall growth, as well as the development and operational execution of the company’s business strategy.
In a press release announcing his arrival, Fasola said, “I am deeply honored to be named CEO and join the tremendous team at Magellan Health during such a dynamic time in the healthcare industry.”
Fasola has had a successful leadership career spanning three decades in the healthcare industry. Most recently he served as president and chief executive officer of HealthMarkets, Inc., one of the largest health insurance agencies in the U.S., which was acquired last year by UnitedHealth Group. Prior to joining HealthMarkets, Fasola was responsible for Humana’s individual major medical, specialty and supplemental insurance operations. He also served as chief executive officer for Secure Horizons, a division of UnitedHealth Group and one of the nation’s largest Medicare Advantage insurer, and as chief executive officer of UnitedHealth Care’s Central region and national sales officer and president of UnitedHealth Care lines of business.
About Jim Murray, President & COO:
Murray is Magellan Health’s president and chief operating officer; he oversees Magellan’s Behavioral and Specialty Health and Magellan Complete Care (MCC) business segments.
Murray joined Magellan Health after serving as president of PrimeWest Health, a Dallas-based company which supports physician shift to value-based care. From 2017-2019, he served as chief executive officer of LifeCare HealthPartners, a Dallas-based hospital system. Prior to these responsibilities, Murray held significant leadership roles at Humana for nearly 30 years.
When asked about joining Magellan, Murray said, “It is a privilege and an honor to join Magellan Health and lead these business segments as we capitalize on the opportunities to improve quality of care and member outcomes, reduce cost of care for both members and customers, and transform the delivery system in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry.”
