Magellan adopts new guideline for adolescent substance use disorders
Magellan’s clinical taskforce recently adopted a new clinical practice guideline (CPG). Guidelines serve as the evidence-based framework for practitioners’ clinical decision-making for the treatment of patients.
Highlights of the 2025-2026 change:
Substance Use Disorders and Problematic Substance Use (Excluding Tobacco) in Adolescents and Young Adults
Magellan most recently adopted The Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Clinical Practice Guideline for the Assessment and Treatment of Adolescents and Young Adults With Substance Use Disorders and Problematic Substance Use (Excluding Tobacco) (2025, PDF).
Previously adopted guidelines
Some previously adopted or developed guidelines remain available on our website, as portions of the documents are pertinent to current clinical practice.

Magellan’s adopted guidelines are intended to augment, not replace, sound clinical judgment. We welcome your feedback and will consider all suggestions and recommendations in our next review.
