Dial us direct for Blue Shield of California members' concurrent review or discharge

For facility services requiring prior authorization (i.e., inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient), you can now dial directly into our clinical queue by calling Magellan’s* new dedicated line for concurrent review or discharge. We launched the new concurrent review process in August for Blue Shield of California members in an effort to streamline the utilization management decision-making process.

Here's how it works:

  1. Call the new toll-free phone number, 1-800-424-5999, on the last authorized day of care.
  2. Select the option for Concurrent Review if additional days are needed beyond the last authorized day.
  3. Select the Discharge option if patient has been discharged from services.
  4. Depending on your selection, you will be transferred to the appropriate Magellan clinical staff member.

Thank you for your patience as we fine-tune this new process. We’re monitoring call volume and adjusting staffing on this line to help you reach a care manager sooner.

Note about authorizations:

The process for requesting an initial authorization has not changed. You should continue to call in initial authorization requests at 1-877-263-9952.

*In California, Magellan does business as Human Affairs International of California, Inc. and/or Magellan Health Services of California, Inc. – Employer Services.
