CPT codes for psychological and neuropsychological testing services to change Jan. 1, 2019
The American Medical Association (AMA) has changed the coding structure for the family of CPT® codes* used for psychological and neuropsychological testing services, effective Jan. 1, 2019.
This change affects you if you are currently qualified to provide psychological testing (96101-96303) and neuropsychological testing (97118-96120). Psychologists and psychiatrists in Magellan networks will soon receive a letter by mail with more information about the new codes. In the meantime, you can preview the psychological testing codes crosswalk.
The new coding structure will allow you to describe more accurately the work required when multiple hours of technical and professional services are performed.
For services performed through Dec. 31, 2018, you should continue billing the current CPT codes for psychological testing (96101-96303) and neuropsychological testing (97118-96120).
